Chicago Ills, Aug 8th, 1888, H.B. Stone Esq. Genl Mangr C.B. & ? RR. City Dear Sir. Following find report of Opr C.W. dated at Galesburg Ills Aug. 2d 1888. Opr reports that he went to the Court House at 10am and the case proceeded to trial. nothing of any interest occurred, Bowles was on the stand and testified the same as he did in Aurora. Opr spent part of the day going around to the saloons and mixing with the strikers thinking he might be able to overhear some of their conversation. As to the line of defense they were gong to make but could learn nothing in the evening Opr went around with the City Marshall they went to the White Elephant Saloon. Also remained around the saloon of the Brown Hotel mixing with people but was unable to learn anything of importance. The case Opr says will probably close tomorrow Opr thinks from what he can learn that they will not make any defense to speak of but simply get the outlines and strength of our case and will make their defense in the Upper Court after they hear our Evidence. Yours Respectfully Pinkertons Nat Det Agcy per Wm A. Pinkerton Genl Supt West. Div.
