Ebensburg July 13th, 1857? Dr Everett Truly venerable & tome long revered Friend he?. Indeed such are always my feelings in writing to you but especially to none in this more private & confidential manner altho at present having neither the time nor the knowledge I can give you no very full information no more than to drop a few lines respecting our present news & intentions as we are just on the eve of removing our little family to Alliance in Ohio with the view of helping our poor people there all I can (for a while at least) towards planting & raising a Con. l little unclear there few in number & feeble in strength as they now are however - For more than a year seeing their prospecting view rather dark & precarious had I been fighting against their proposals & yet have never been able to give it entirely up if possibly any good might be done there. You are aware that a small infant little church was organized there last Spring altho the Cal. Meth. had made an organization much earlier & was unclear stronger in number & strength even the mills as they intended & I answered? it being sort of a "church & state concern" seemingly Ours were, but, 2 or 3 small families already involved? indebted in the ,ice? & in building their humble dwellings houses they number now in all about 20 members. I have now occasionally back & forth supplied them for a number of unclear or other & in answer to their humble but earnest request told them that if they agreed to do their best faithfully I would likewise do my best for them for one year late more fully what can be done & to have I colored? to their cannot to far not wishing to despair this "day of small things"
