Dear Mother & all

                   Oct. 11. 1849
Pa Furber came this morning & is going home something. I could not tell where to put on the buttons, so if you will please to sew on her pantalettes I will fix them afterwards. I send also old Chemise of Lucy's which I fixed last spring. Guess though I'll only send one of each, as she is coming so soon, s'twill make a bigger bundles. The only rails I could find were 1.25 and ,75, so I got the latter, and two yds of ninepenny calico. Also if you please lend me the loan of Montgomery's poems, for the sake of letting Margaret read "Wanderer of Switzerland." There is every prospect of our going to housekeeping now, but I have hardly dared to think much about it. There are so many changes - we know not what a day may bring forth. Mother, you will not so much as think that you cannot. Joseph, you will of course come and stay a long time, if you are well enough, and Mother with you. Charles & Albina and dear little Charley - I shall feel hurt if they do not. I know they can, if they only think so, and it will do them all good. I do want to see line is partly missing as page is cut out real hug and kiss for me. "Gold ditto Emigrant Ship lost in the gale last ditto harbor - a hundred lives lost. Have
