Mother Bangor Me Feb 25 1857 Bangor Feb 28 My Dear Son I feel like writing a little to you tho' I have nothing particularly interesting to write - we are all very well now - We have had remarkably mild weather since about the 23-24th of Feb. the very cold spell when the mercury in our thermometer was frozen and it was said downtown that it was down to 24 - The winter has all been mild with the exception of 2 or 3 very cold spells & those were short - we have rain & very soft weather sleighing about all gone about the 18th warm enough to set without a line from 50 to 60 above I stay at home mostly do nothing but knit & read & not much of that for it makes my head ache to read much. "The Independent" takes considerable time - I have lately read again The Rise & Progress - Have now been reading "[unclear] prints of the Creation" & incredible as it may seem I really enjoyed it - tho' of course I couldn't understand it all - To many geological terms - I receiv'd your letter of the 15th on the 24th.
