I started with him for Chicago on arrival there I met Supt McGinn at depot, and explained matters to him, we then went to county jail and saw Beu Price, the chief clerk and through his kindness we saw Ralph Lee and jail barber, Mr. Elmer, the latter I think to evade the violation of prison unclear, or committing Broderick of doing so, unclear everything, but on seeing Ralph Lee, be acknowledged that he called Bowles to that door, he heard Bowles say "is that you Tomi? How is your little gird.", the next he heard was Bowles saying "oh, four, you can't or ought not to talk to me that way - Lee says he can't tell what was said from the other side of the door, as he did not want to hear what was going on. I am satisfied that when B. Price told Supt. McG and myself that no such conversation could take place, he really believed it - but- when I was talking through that door I could very distinctly hear the noise on that other side.
