Dear Brother Jos.

This night when John returned from school rec'd your letter together with two others for Samuel & one myself from our Lizzie Doe. One from Walter Brown & in relating to their scaling business, the other from one Boobar, who, according to agreement, wrote to Samue when the Brown & Son's went into the woods. Rec'd another letter from you last Sat. which he did not have time to answer, as he started for the woods ? (Mon.) morn. early. Went part way there once before, week before last, but the team had not gone in. He will probably be absent more than a week this first time. The only thing we know how to answer in your other letter is about the cash of ? I heard Father says it was omitted in the first account. Samuel has scaling to do for Freeland Holmes, & Wm. Mc ?gides what he had engaged when he came from Bangor. Had nothing from Cushing & Hayford. P.P. Furber and wife started yesterday morning for N.H. to be gone five or six weeks. Mehitable says they d not go very near Lowell. Samuel will tell you when he comes home next week all about it. I do mot understand your allusion to Roman Gen. Pres. Jackson etc. unless it is not to divulge the business of the Firm, which I am in no danger of doing. I have been intending to write you for some days. Have written a long letter to Ann sent in answer to one from her, but because she don't write - also one to Isaac, today, and will conclude by scribbling a little to you, unless, forsooth, I should incline to say a word to Lissie when I have finished yours. She has told me all about the "mince pie lunch." Want me to send
