Camp near Cottonwood Forage Agency ( New-Mexico); there is wood, grazing fair and? water in the waterhole. The first part of the road is good rough, the latter part good but dusty. _ Mesquite? country. _ The water is good, said to be permanent; no grazing of any account, Mesquite? country, undulating and in some places sandy. _ Camped near the river on the road, which branches to the left; the right hand road does not go near the water, but is the most direct one; _ roads good. Road very rough over steep hills. There used to be a road? around the hills close to the river, which was excellent, but about 300 yards of it are washed away.
