       I suppose that I have been very much to blame for not writing to you before.Lucy washed tow weeks ago to day and I suppose took cold, had a great deal of pain in her back and sides and for a few days had a bad form of dysentery and then a severe cough but would not call herself sick nor allow me to get any one to take care of her Tuesday of last week I sent for Doct. McRuen he said she had the worst form of lung fever and she appeared to be getting better her cough less dry and hard and raised quite easy. Your Mother came down here last Thursday. This morning at six o'clock we were presented with a daughter by Dr. McRuen. Lucy is now  (? o'clock) as comfortable as we could expect and I do feel that she will get well though all anxiety concuming her. I hardly expect the child will live though Dr. McRuen think it quite likely to. I feel that we have much to be thankful for if Lucy recovers. I will write again in a few days. where is Ann? She wrote that she should start for home the 7 inst. Eliab has paid me some money ( 88.28) for you, Joseph continues to fail as I suppose you are aware from your last letters, Excuse this scrabble as we very much confused just now.
