to Lucy Ann - Apr. 25 Westfield Apr. 25th /51 Your letter of 5 just came to hand and for it I am much obliged though it was not half long enough. I received one from Isaac too last Sat. dated Cuba less than a hundred miles from here:- it made me feel bad to think of him so near and be able to see him:- Mariette said she believed she should conclude her brother cared little for her if he came so near without visiting her. but I told her I was sure he would come if he could consistently,- I suppose he has returned East I have been secretly flattering myself that he would take a trip this way and perhaps find a place to suit him in this section. I should think Samuel would be right glad to leave all those pokanokity' jaw-breaking places and emerge again into the light of civilized life- and its comfort too; but I do not like the idea of you keeping house while so feeble, unless Mother can be with you, if it were not for the opportunity of gaining a few 'dollars', how glad I should be to stay with you so retired and quiet: but it seems to be my lot to delve and toil among strangers and eat the bread of those whose chief interest in my welfare arises from the board money I pay them: however, every pains the nature of the case admits is taken to please me and I am quite at my ease and liberty: I do not find every thing just as I would like but probably as near to it as I could expect_ School is pleasanter than last term, in two weeks shall have kept two half terms of seven weeks each,: I have a large class in French some of the oldest and most advanced scholars,- a class in Kames Elements of Criticism, which I have to learn
[right side of letter] I will direct this to Eliab - not knowing whether it will reach you at Milo or B.
[left side of letter] write me all manner of little items of news
