at least 50 dollars. I have been sent for to keep at a school where one of the Tolman girls was dismissed at Legrange corner. It is a pretty hard school & I sent my terms 9/ or 10/6 - Don't know whether they'll want me on those conditions or not. Let me advise you never to refuse money again when 'tis offered you! lest some trouble befall you. Should think of the others concerned know of the unpaid bill, they would help settle it. Write again soon, won't you? Affectionately

[right-hand side] Mr. Greenleaf has just been in to invite me to a boat ride & pic nic with their folks - Hills etc. Fifteen of us in all. Going up the river in two boats fastened together. [bottom of page upside down] Our Milorites grow very patriotic. Hodgkins and Joe Sargent etc. have erected a liberty pole at the corner, monstrous high, whereon is a big flag. They've been firing cannon and guns all the forenoon. Plenty of drum and fifing down to the 'city.' All, or about all, the 'Sons' have gone to Dexter by special invitation. Elridge Carpenter delivered an Oration I believe. Said those who had wives would take them & those who had not might carry their 'Sweet hearts.' Cordingly they've gone in that manner.

"Each boy with a horse that draws him on,
Each lassie beside her neighbor's son."
