Vicksburg Aug. 5th /63 Dear Brother Charlie I have received two letters from you in so short a space of time, that I feel duty bound to answer them in spite of laziness. The weather is so oppressively hot, that it is the greatest exertion for me to write, and when I do undertake it I sweat so much that I soil every thing within my reach.
