They will not walk over a tree that lies across their path.

They set their fire by friction. 2 Dub 48. They make an offering of their first fruits, & they throw the first bit or spoonful of every meal they sit down to into the ashes near the fire (1 Dub 144) And they say this ceremony is for the same purpose with them, as what the Europeans do when going to rituals they pull off their hats & talk over it.

They make fires & cast the powder of tobacco into them, as a sacrifice to the Gods; & when overtaken by a storm upon the water, they cast some of it into the air or water. This is performed with strange ceremonies, stamping, leaping, dancing, clapping of hands, and uttering of strange words.
