Dear Mother

A few words in haste this Saturday morning to ask if you have any more butter to spare, either last year's or this spring's make., or if you can get any good in the neighborhood at Mrs. Sargent's, Dolan's,or anywhere. If you or Almeda have any we would like a small box as soon as it can be sent by stage. I shall write to Almeda about it. Butter is very high and it is almost impossible to get any good here now. I shall write to Almeda too, and if she and Albina both send a box, it will not come amiss. If there is more than we want, it can go right into the store. Samuel and Eliab have got a splendid store. The largest and best arranged store, wharf and counting room in the city. Their counting room in particular is very pleasant. Very high, with large windows coming almost to the floor on three sides, a large, handsome and convenient desk, clock, looking glass, table of books, papers etc. They will have to negotiate some, as Sam'l says in order to meet their notes, for a while, but think it is a good business, and an excellent situation, and that they can carry it through safely. But they are so busy, particularly now,

[left-hand side and top] her good letter received a day or two since, with yours, but I have got an amount of work to do before Anna gets hers, of all sorts. There is so much necessary work here that must be done. Baby sleeps all night without food. Why do you always have do poorish there. Your last letter I could not possibly send in the evening - had to give it up till morning then could not decipher the whole, though I think I found out the meaning of all. Cannot any better be obtained there? I must mend Samuel's coat before dinner. good bye - love to all Aff. daughter Lucy No matter whether little or more butter is sent, it will go to the store if we don't want it all.
