Dear Mother

                 Your good letter was welcomed yesterday noon. Maria was here all day, and Eliab to dinner, - Lizzie has just gone to school and baby to sleep, so I embrace this opportunity of quiet to write all the letters I have time to before I am interrupted, - commencing, of course, with yours.
                 In the first place, don't you think this paper is too nice to write "to you" on? Well, if it is, 'tis not my fault. I sent by Samuel for some common small sheets and he got this - he said it was only a trifle higher priced & nicer paper. In the next place, I am thoroughly provoked with Mr. Morrell for his mean unaccommodatingness - it is outrageous & abominable. I remember how very hard the wind blew that day.
