Dear Nettie I commence a letter to you but have not much to write as seems quite dull here now and I should be decidedly lonely if we had not so much to do as we leave no time for anything namely but work, work. We have had two rainy days, steady rain, pouring all day on the windows and roof with misty lowering clouds in the sky, but still and warm very propitious for sewing steadily; this morning it is clear, and every thing looks delightfully; the river has risen so much that the water can be seen for quite a distance, all the rocks I presume are covered. Yesterday a colored gentleman from Phil. lectured on slavery, free soil: he had a large audience in spite of the rain; he is an educated man Presbyterian minister.
