at last were inclined in this strait of 2 evils to chose the least, as it to shew appeared, & to accompany the enemy to their quarters under their promise of good usage & protection, & perhaps if Eng.m. & good Christns. too had been in their case & under like temptations possibly they might have done as they did. The chief men among these pray. Inds. who also was (1) their ruler named Cap. Tom alias Wuttasacomponom (1) a prudent & I believe a pious man, & had given good demonstration of it many years. I had particular acquaintance with him, & cannot in charity think otherwise concerning him in his life, or at his death, tho' possibly in this action he was tempted beyond his strength, for had he done as he ought he should rather have suffered death, then have gone among the wicked enemies of the people of god.
