March 2, Mr. H. Clark, Forenson John 21.15&16. Introduction - mentioned the circumstances under which Christ and his disciples had met. He addresses to Peter the inquiry, solemnly and earnestly, "Lovest thou me?" and after receiving his reply gives him a charge, "Feed my lambs" and "my sheep", as much as to say - If thou lovest me labor for me, do my will; minister to my unclear. This, Peter obeyed, to the end of life The apostles and many others of the early christians, literally, did what they could. They forsook houses and lands and kindred, all that was dear to them. They were cast out dispised and forsaken of men, persecuted, and driven from city to city, exposed to dangers, hardships and trials of every discription, till at last they laid down their lives even for Christ's sake. And gladly they submitted to these things, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer for Christ. If then we truly love Christ it will lead to action, to ardent, self-denying effort to save souls. We are Christians just so far as we are like Christ. He loved to do the will of his father. It is then in vain to suppose ourselves Christians and never put forth one effort for the salvation of our fellow beings. If we would do good we must 1. Think, seriously and deeply.
