Head Quarters, St. Louis District, St. Louis, Mo., May 22nd 1863.

Cousin Fanny, Your letter of long ago I found this morning by accident and I remembered with shame and vexation that I had never answered it. Indeed if you will excuse me this time I will not be guilty of a similar offence again. I am as you see still in St. Louis and shall probably remain here for some time. Many changes are being made in the best of Mo. but I do not think
