St Paul Nov 13th 1857 Dear Mother I quit work on the road last Monday morning, reason, 10 inches of show, which fell Saturday Evening and Sunday. Winter seems to be upon us in earnest, it has really thawed but little any day this week, and my work will have to lay over untill Spring. I have about a weeks work to put in some culverts and then I shall go into winter quarters. I get on my street contract here $2471.18. my pay is in certificates of assesments upon lots on the street which creats a lien upon the property and is considered good security, which certificates draw 30 per cent interest. My Government contract amounts in all to but about $3000. I shall make good wages on that
