Topsham Dec. 13th, 1846 Dear Mother,

    I received your excellent and most welcome letter yesterday.  I had been expecting a letter for a good while, in fact had got entirely out of patience of waiting, and three or four days before had written again to Milo, which it seems however you had not received when you wrote.  It must have been not far off though.  It seems you had quite a Thanksgiving at Milo after all.  I did not know whether the boys were going up or not.  I wanted much to go home, probably should if I had not been quite so poorunderlined.  However, now I find I have go to go on to Yale College, it is perhaps better, for now  I can have a vacation.  Next week. I guess I shall start Monday Dec. 21st, and go right on to Yale by Rail Road shortest route, be there Wednesday perhaps Thursday  also and get back the best way I can.  Almeda is in Boston at that time I will make arrangements to stop and call upon her.  I suppose likely the shortest route from Boston
