(2.) Soon after dinner Mr. Vaughn & I started for Bell's Camp. Halfway between Gelunau (?) and Red Cliff there is a small chapel there, holds about 35 - We had a meeting there last Wed. Eve. when we could not have P.O.S.ofA. Hall. The meeting was advertised for 3 o'clock & we began & G.L. preached on Christ & the Place of Salvation- The people were mostly Mr. Hart & his family, boys & girls from 16 to 22 & some of their friends who all live on a shoulder point near Bell's Camp called Poverty Flats because the people who live there are all quite well off - Mr. Hart owns mines there & lives there most of the year. His house is Council Bluffs Iowa & his children only spend summer vacations here - After service he invited us to spend Tuesday afternoon at his house - His people seem to be a jolly crowd. Sunday the Phrenologist said he examined 30 heads at $2.00 apiece - But we think he lied. G.S. & I had the honor of breakfasting with him & his wife - He said he lived for some time in the town where Thayer, an Oberlin man, preaches, & likes him much - He also said he came within a hair's breadth of being a minister himself. If he should go into the ministry it would be to make money he said. He said there was more money made in the ministry than anywhere else, in the U.S. He would be of the sensational kind that was his fort (sic) - He certainly is a sensationalist he wares (sic) a blue hat & hair long, way down on his shoulders
