So with the help of the Saloon Keeper we were able to run an opposition to the Phrenologist - But when evening came we had only 12 present, but we had the best prayer meeting we had had. The Phrenologist had about 50 or 60 but he charted no admission - The next night, he charged an admission fee of 25 cents & had about the same number while we had as many as 40 - & a very good meeting. Sunday, Mr. Smith & Mr. Kettle stayed here in the morning and I went over to Red Cliff to help Mr. Vaughn with a Children's service - He had about 15 people 12 of them nice bright smart looking children. He is a fine young man about the only one in Mr. Vaughn's Church whom he could call upon to lead in prayer, he says - A very nice young lady named Keast played the organ, the regular organist, a Miss. Campbell, was late, and is always 1/2 hour late -- Miss Keast teaches the infant class - Mr. Vaughn & I went to the Quartzite Hotel & had chicken - & a slice of Water mellon (sic)for desert!! (sic) Watermellons are worth 5 cents a pound - This was the first I had eaten - Peaches 5 cents a piece But red raspberries grow wild in great abundance & we make up for lack of other things by eating them
