torn page so as to relieve our poor animals all we could? it rained hard all day & at night the Hydropathic Treatment wet sheets to sleep in cleared off cold Towards morning with the wind in the north. 31st a cold clear morning raised camp about 11 oclock = Rumours in camp of Troubles ahead? with Camanche Utaw & Apache Tribes of Indians, heard they had killed many parties of Whites one pack, of 15 Americans with a celebrated Mountaineer "Bill Williams as Leader, & arrested? a Company of U.S. Dragoons, a number of men talk of returning I laugh at them & tell them they better return that it would be better for the company for them to do so,, Travelled one side of the Trail in hopes of finding fame, saw 8 or 10 Antelope a couple of wolves but very wild & could not get nearer than 1/2 a mile & the prarie was so level there was little chance of surprising them,, flushed 3 or 4 Prairie hens Travelled about 26? miles & camped on Little Turkey creek saw here where the Arkansas Trail Joins The Santa-fe Trail slept on our pack Saddles, 1st clear & pleasant heard today of a Buffalo being killed by another party, all all eager to ^ see these monsters of the Plains, & in fancy we see roasting ribs
