standing which our troops stormed, & were repullsed [sic] with heavy losses - Chapultepec was much improved by Maximillian. The walls repaired & strengthened, he also built the drive going from the old Castle to the foot of the hill & planted trees on bot side thus making it a most beautiful drive. Took another drive on the Paseo, which of course we enjoyed.
