at last we met a postilion coming back who took off 2 of the poor beasts & put his in the place we went faster for a little while then took off another & got to the next post house about three quarters of an hour after the chariot -- we then went on very comfortably & at a very good pace but saw nothing of the coach which had gone on from one post house to another with Miss Seybs telling the Master that the courier was behind with 2 other carriages they also passed the police at the gates of Bologna by Miss Seybs finding one of the men who understood German & to whom she could explain the reason of their being without a passport. When we arrived at the Hotel it was 11 oclock & Miss Seybs had almost given us up it being so late had very comfortable bedrooms & could wish nothing better--
