It stands on a high bluff, commanding a fine view of the country, & was a look out for Montezuma--he having his tent pitched under the emmense red wood & cypress trees in the woods below, These trees are planted in Avenues, & are lovely with their festoons of gray moss, These must be very old as they were very large when Cortez made his conquest here--near here is Montezuma's bath, enclosed by a stone wall--We had a view of the ?battle? field of Molina del Rey, also the ruins of the old Church were the Priest stood in the door with his Crucifix as Troops passed--praying them to not touch his Church.
