1749 “The Ohio explores by the French. The Ohio company is formed about this time by English traders with the view of engaging the Indian trade of the Ohio River. A considerable tract of land on that river was granted them without the consent of the Indians, which served greatly to irritate the latter. The French taking advantage of the disposition of the Indians, seized on the English traders, confiscated their property, & compelled the company to abandon their project.” Lings Ch: 92
