My dear good Wife:

                                       I suppose you are in Marlboro N.H. to-day taking comfort with that good sister of yours & her excellent husband. I hope you are well & happy, & that the children are the same. If you want to see a disgusted, disappointed, dissatisfied, disconsolate, homesick, heart sick, half sick fellow just look in my parlor (which is the shady side of the corn crib here) & you will find such a human being. I have been very unwell since I came to the farm. I have raised bloody matter daily till t-day since I reached Chicago on my way back from the North & I have been very weak & tired. Having no horse here to us I have to get round just as I can sometimes in a lumber wagon sometimes, horseback & sometimes on foot.

F25 [left-hand side and top] Give lots of love to our dear boys & tell them papa loves them much much & thinks of them often & would be very glad to see them. I hope dear Wife that you are well & happy. I should like to see you Oh so must submit I suppose to fate & content myself if possible here alone. I hope to get back to you & the children by the Middle of Sept. if nothing more happens to detain me. I am dear, sweet wife your loving husband N. Kendall
