HIs bounty to the close of all their lives. now places meat and corn upon the fire. Over them he sprinkles a powder of old (wild) tobacco leaves. his right hand man and his seven counsellors, intently observe the burning of the meat. If it burns quietly or flings off small pieces in a certain direction, all will go well; but if the smoke settles over the altar, in a bluish cloud, and fragments of the meat dart westward, the year will prove sickly. The sacrifice being ended, the right hand man orders the provisions which have come in ready cooked, to be brought forward, and so disposed as to enable all to sit by them and eat. As soon as this is arranged, the right hand man gives the word to commence the repost. All the people, at the same instant, partake of the new food. However; his right hand man, and his seven counsellors, must abstain from tasting aught until after sunset; - nor, until they have remained seven days longer at the National Heptagon, may they indulge in any but the old provisions of the year preceding.
