October Sunday 4 1863 Cool & pleasant __ Mr. Merancy called & so did Mrs. Allen __ Fleet of boats passed up in the morning__ the most of of them I think having torn free during a [unclear] of the night__ Genl Smiths Division__ Had the monthly inspection & afterward a review_ passed off very creditably __ Wrote to Freedman Association answering questions Cool & pleasant_- Battalions drill today _ Col [unclear] called & I had quite a long talk with him__ Rec'd a line from our friend Davis__ Genl Rierman went to G. Landing under invitation of Genl Thomas_ QM went up & returned__ Dance at Rookers__ Singing at our Hd Qrs Tuesday 6
Windy dusty & rather unpleasant__ {unclear] annoying camp grounds & putting up new tents__ Learned that [unclear...] had been ordered out the lines by Genl Thomas Good!! Wrote a letter to Mrs. Mary Walker Brockport NY & Rec'd one like wise__ Was down to the [unclear] place for flowers
