Friday May 22nd

It is very warm and dusty -- Sister Licinia and I went down to Mrs Hobsons. as we were going into the store a man passed calling fire -- and it proved to be Mrs Hobsons Milliner store at the back a Carpenter shop burned down and scorched her back buildings?. she was much frightened they played a great deal of water on Bryan Hall which injures it some. finally the Unitarian Church on Washington street -- of which Mr Thomas is the pastor caught, and burned to the ground. a perfect wreck. we stood and saw it burn for a few minutes when a Hose pipe burst -- throwing water all over us. we returned home then. and dressed ourselves and at five went to the Office -- got Walter & Octave and went round to the Tremont Hotel to dine with Mr Bigelow, he treated us handsomely -- and we came home again at eight o. clock I went right to bed feeling bad from cold --
