July Wednesday 15 1863 Pleasant day [unclear] inspector of Department called to day and Gnl Grant was [unclear] bu did not come Col Shepherd gave an order as to [drills?] that did not please me Ordered some [unclear] by Davis who is going to [unclear] __Sent a hundred dollar bill by him to send to Sherman by draft _Wrote a letter Sherman Thursday 16 Nothing new today __ Kept quiet during the day_ Fanny Bullitt returned and Boat landed inquiring for Gnl Grant__ Had an alarm at night the picket firing and then men in camp were turned out under arms. done in good time and in good order. Friday 17 Gnl Cracker and [unclear] called to day and we got papers of 14th Memphis. nothing new occurred during the day. At night recd a note from Col Shepherd directing me to call on him and he complained of me for disobedience of a certain order_ Had a lively time but [unclear] about as we begun.
