Friday Jan 9th 1863

This is a pretty day- Mrs Monroe, called also Mrs Vandervoort. Miss Goodrich Miss M. A Rice & Mirs Mittenberger-. I went down town- after tea Mr Badger David Octave & myself all went to the negro Minstrets? children all well-

Saturday Jan 10th 1863

Sister Virginia & I took a hack and went shopping this morning we all well- Mr Badger going to Unitarian meeting to night cannon fired this evening- I have not yet heard for what purpose-

Sunday Jan 11th 1863

It is bright over head, but bad under foot- I went with David to Unitarian Church- the Badger boys came to see us after dinner I went with David to Mr Badgers church- to the meeting of the Sunday school Union- there was a large crowd- Mr Badger is President of the meeting- we all well- I wrote home to day-

Monday Jan 12th 1863

It is again bright over head- many are skating on the basin before our door- yet it is warm for Chicago and no sleighing yet- Virginia & I took a Carriage and went to many houses inviting our friends to our house to morrow night to the Grasshopper Club- Miss Mallen and Miss Morse called to day - also Misses Gurnee- to night we are all busy unclear some beautiful apples we all well- I bought a white moireantique silk to day- I received an invitation to day for the mite Society- also an invitation to Mrs Sturges party and one to the Bachelors ball Thursday night-

Tuesday Jan 13th 1863

It is raining and looks as if it would continue so all day I am very busy arranging things for our Grasshopper Club to night- at eight O. clock I had every thing finished- children dressed and all ready- the company collected at nine there were a great many here- ladies in full dress- everything passed off handsomely- there was but one thing to mar my pleasure- that was the boldness of one young lady my Sister and Brotherinlaw- Mr Faulds were here- we are all well all left at two O. clock- we had a nice supper-

Wednesday Jan 14th 1863

It is cold- I went to dress maker to be fit for my white Moire Antique dress, bought a red velvet headdress- at nine O. clock Brother David Faulds Mr Badger Octave & myself al went - they had a fine supper and every thing passed off handsomely- we danced a great deal. it is the finest supper I have been to here in Chicago- we all well- baby getting 4 new teeth.
