and I agreed to accept it. I thereupon left our camp and started for Taos taking Dick Owens along with me as a companion. We arrived at Bent's Fort in safety and were informed that the Utah? Indians were encamped somewhere along our route. Owens decided to remain at the fort and Bent furnished me with a fine horse which I could ?, and in case I should fall in with any Indians I could mount and use in making my escape. I started on my journey and soon afterwards discovered the Indian village without being seen by the Indians. I passed it during the night and arrived safely at Taos.
