We pushed on in a southeasterly direction. Passing thro' or eastern into the [unclear] of the Quitman [unclear] [unclear] into Camp 10 miles from the Rio Grande. On the 30th we watered at the River [unclear] miles to the wash of Quitman & then passed through that [unclear] & decidedly delapitated old post with its white washed allobe walls and chimneys standing like monuments or tomb stones in an abandoned church yard. Thr[unclear] on towards & encamped with ten or twelve miles of Eagle Springs as the sunlight was fading and [unclear] - or lifted
