Jennie Lu,
Dolly's Grandmother
Dolly's grandmother was a horrid scold. When Dolly lived with her we rised, to be great friends, and I used to be Dolly's confident. and she would tell me all her secrets. She said that she had to work very hard and her grandmother would scold her, and call her anything but a good girl. She used to sit in her easy chair with a huge pair of spectacles resting on the top of her nose. In those days, of course, they had no carpets; the house was old and large, the floors and ceilings were without paint and no less than three times a week every floor in the house must be neat scoured and the ceiling they too must be equally well cleaned, and that too by Dolly. And she was only fourteen years of age. Dolly at length became weary of hard work and her cross grandmother went to reside with her uncle.
