48 [stamp]

Your letter of the 28th. ult., has been received and submitted to the Commanding General, who directs me to say, that he thinks you made a mistake in the arrest of Lieut. Parker, for the cause assigned in the charges against him, and also in directing another Officer to perform the duties of Adjutant of another Regiment - any acts performed by such Acting-Adjutant are void - ab initia-. The only way now is, to announce anew, and first to prevent any future trouble with Lieut. Parker, he directs that Lieut. Parker be relieved from all duties at the post, and attend simply to his duties as Adjutant of the 4th Cavalry, under such instructions ad he has, or may receive from Col. Mackenzie.
You will also relieve the Sergeant Major of the 4th Cavalry from duty at the post, and direct him to report to Lieut. Parker for exclusive duty at the Headquarters of his Regiment.
Lieut. White, as previously directed, will be relieved as Post-Adjutant and an Infantry Officer selected to perform those duties.
It is to be understood, that Lieut. Parker and the Headquarters of the 4th Cavalry, are entirely removed from the control or supervision of the Post Commander.
With this disposition of Officers at your post, the Commd'g General expresses the hope, that hereafter everything will go on smoothly there.
Your are to be informed, that the escort, sent out from your post with the Railroad-party, will be relieved when it reaches Fort Griffin, by a Company of the 9th Cavalry.
                                                                           Very respectfully
