As to my health, it is [slim?], I do no duty. I do not gain strength very fast for my appetite is not very great for the army rations, of which we have full supply now, the boys get all the black berries they want by going out a mile or two, and they give me some occassionally, and they go good, Capt. gave me a piece of berry pie last night and his cook another this morning (they relished [fried?] [water?]) he gave me a piece of raw fresh beef also which I think will go good fried. I am going to try to get out and get some berries, (we have to go outside the pickets.) You need not worry at all about me, for I am not in a dangerous way or condition. I believe it is decided that I go forward, when we do, if I have to be carried, thats the [illegible] present mind.
