March 3, 1926 Dear Sherwood, I thought was hard boiled, but tears came into my eyes when I read your note just now. Lately I've been thinking myself a failure; but your kindness is writing what you did about "Cane River" made me happy. I can't say what I would like to say, and perhaps I never can; but I think you know that I'd rather have your praise than that of any other man in the world. Your friend, Lyle Saxon.
