My dear Sherwood Anderson, At first, to tell you truth, I had no idea of writing to you, but just now as I have been reading your "The Man's Story" the idea has suddenly occurred to me. I am a young Japanese would-be writer and, having for years deep interest in your books, a few months ago determined to translate some of them into Japanese. We Japanese, when going to translate foreign books, seldom do the work with any acknowledgement of the authors; and that was why at first I had no intention of writing
