was inspired by envy of this quality in your novel. Failure is bitter, and a writer knows the feel of failure. I find none of the Herbst books in paperback. In fact most libraries do not ^ in red any of her books/red have them at all. some libraries have hidden them in depositories. I seen to be the only one in the area requesting their resurrection. I will not wish you a merry Christmas, because, frankly, I hate the season. This year I plan to drop out from the songs, the tree, the cheer. Instead, I shall work at the Help Line Telephone Clinic where the lonely, the defeated of this area call in. Sometimes they ask who cares if they kill themselves. I tell them I do. What I shall wish you is a year in which you will write a novel, your memoirs. Such writing as yours is never "disinherited" for long.

 Sincerely,
Kathleen R. Smith
