Feb 19th '44 Saturday

Dear Reverend "Toots": Your latest letter to me in which you interpreted my 17 days of pain (?) in the Post Hospital as a modern archtype (sic) of St Alphonsus' sufferings - is -, I fear, a flattering interpretation of events. I fear there was more "virus" than virtue in the whole business. Jack - you'll note I have a new address. "A-54" in place of "B-56". It means only that I lost too much time in the hospital to stay with my own group and must be out of this camp until April 15th instead of March 15. Since none of us know where we'll be after Callan I can't see that it makes much difference. There was a rumor that out outfit was going to go from here to Ft. Bliss, Texas. Bearing in mind Dr. Algren's remarks on that sovereign state I'm just as glad to put off such a fate for another month - and thus maybe avoid it all together. I don't doubt you saw the enclosed article about Mrs. Shaw's will - and read it with mixed emotions. Mary sent ti to me - and off-hand I have 2 thoughts on the subject:
