Left Paso del Toro - 3 miles W. S.W. in a slough some mosquitos 6 miles this a chaparal ? round to the Rio Frio again - very pretty, but now the Stream is more placid & less of it - By map in straight line 17 m from Presidio 2d - Hancock makes it 15 thus we are below, but from the ? state of the stream it may be possible we are above the Arroyo de Vivalde - Large trout in river - Greene & James went down the river & found the Arroyo da Aralde called by the Muleteers El Sabinde 400 yards below us - two lines written on top of each other to the pool of river somewhat differ from English trout - It is heard that there great quantities of Cypress & Cedar on the Arroyo de Uvalde, during the Freshets could be floated down easily into the Frio into the Nueces & to the coast - When freshets run then there are no falls in the rivers - Land ? & under it beds of undulated Sand & rounded pebbles
