122 if not I beg to inform him that I have seen Farmer's wives & others smoking their pipe in England.

When an informer to the "Swab" I have never seen it used in Texas by ladies. I have in the West Indies & a piece of the proper sort of wood makes an excellent apology for a tooth brush - but as to snuff being generally used - O fie on you Mr. M. none of it had been so - When in your gallantry to the sea - in a subsequent journey noticed this only once.
Now with regard to the Hotels. I confess that the accommodation occasionally met with is not quite so recherchê as at Fantons or [?Songs?], but in the principal towns I have been in such as Galveston, Houston, Matajorda, [?] Austin, Brozeman, Gonzales, Sn. Antonio &c &c I have been perfectly contented with the accommodation offered, & this someone during a period that was not for the moment so flourishing as when Mr. M. was in the country. It was probably my good fate to make the acquaintance of hospitable planters rather persons in the Country & which honestly I have informed [?] my kinship.
