Major G.W. Bonnell a Lawyer, was appotd [appointed] by Houston in June 1838. "Commission
of Indian affairs" - & orders to measure off a ? of land to each Indian Village 30th Sept 1838. Bonnell ? in July for his trip - Austin is another top of the intend town of Waterloo - & 50 Miles above Austin is the rest of the intended town of La Fayette. Ford Falls of the Colorado 3 to 4 Miles from Austin & must be the head of steam boat navigation -
Bonnell accompd the Santa Fe expedition & managed to save part of his Journals & when in ? concluded them La Mar promised that
he should be the historian of the Expedition & attached to the Commissioners - but Falconer came out so highly recommended by A. & B. that, the Scientific & historical part was entrusted to him. Bonnell who had fought hard for Lamars Administration conducting the Texas ? felt this severely, was determined to go - & joined the ranks.
Then M.S.S. McDonald thinks as in Cruger & Moore ? at
Houston - ? is probable & no extra counties ? at favor de Lamar - y nada de dieu de Mo - They I have no doubt are
very important in a political point of view, on each as in others.
