14 much respectability and not a Chief, it frequently occurs that two persons are adopted in his place. If the deceased was a distinguished warrior, the ceremony of adoption is performed by the warriors of the Village.

They repair to the house or hut of the deceased and commence the war dance, and singing the war song. They go through all the different attitudes when in action, after which, each one re ports to the assembly the number of actions he had been in, and the number of scalps and prisoners he had taken.
When a warrior had gone through such of his exploits as he feels disposed to state, he hands the war club to another one who proceeds in the same manner, and so on until all the warriors present restates their different tales. During the dance a continued yelling is kept up by the persons present, so as to make the occasion as impressive as possible.
After the dance is over, the relation of the deceased dis?ipes the assembly, and states that the hearts of the relations of the dead are glad.
The person or persons adopted sits with the relations of the deceased during the dance.
