Tues. Oct. 12 1897 mud actually. a.m. helped Geo. return the tack to Mayfield's. Went to wood lot. fire most all out. picked up a few hickory nuts. sharpened hay knife. p.m. took 4 1/2 bushel pears and one bus. tomatoes to town. $2.90 Then helped Geo. dig potatoes back of barn. Wed 13. a.m. picked winter pears. p.m. to wood lot. split up big chunks of beech in east end, sawed last winter. hauled a load stove wood. Thurs. 14 a.m. down Lake Ave. house to house. p.m. picked winter pears. then to town took down iron pump for repair. got 3 axe handles 75 ct. box of Quartette books at freight depot. 33 cts. Then to hill lot for cabbages for cows. eve. Annual mtg. of Church. election. Quartette at Philpotts office. Prosser. Fri. 15 last night warm. today hot a.m. to wood lot split some. hauled load stove wood. broke down just as driving into yard. p.m. for load to wood shed & unloaded. burned out a couple of broken axe handles. Eve. C.E. Quartette at Philpotts store. Sat. 16. Eli & I to wood lot sawing. in p.m. there was a fire alarm & we came home fearing our barn was on fire.
