It is Sunday night about none o'clock this 30th day of 1849. The Folks are gone to bed & it has just come into my head to scribble a little to you, tho' I've nothing to write that's worth the postage. Our family consists of Charles ' Albina the little one & myself. Mr. Gilman some of the time he went home yester noon. I have a good warm fire nothing to to Modest or make me afraid. The happiest hour in the 24 is sometime between 9 & 11 at night for me I am very comfortable and happy tho' all the time but I do enjoy being alone. C.A. & the little Charlie went to Hampden last Thursday home again last night had a very good visit. Fine weather - all enjoy'd it very much Lucy & her Folks all well - Lucy works pretty hard I guess John Furber boards there and goes to Hampden Academy. Our Candles are very poor so I've lighted one of your Spermacites - what a Beautiful light they do give & how long they last I have burnt only one before this but it has done me a "sight of good,,
Nobody ought to love a child better than I do Lucy I Iot upon seeing her & Samuel I some expect to go there this week. I dont know how long I shall stay Make haste and come home & I'll come up with you probably & had better not stay there very long. But I calculate nothing about it without knowing what Joseph is going to do. Tell me do you think he had better stay any longer there and in that Treatment I cannot ascertain that there is much if any improvement in his health. I suppose I dont know any thing about it, But it seems to me that having a steam of Water from 20 feet an inch in diameter poured onto him must be exceedingly painful, ? and exuuting to the system. I dont know hardly what or how it is but he seems to be ever since he has been sick rather too much inclin'd to follow out
