What is it about the A. T. C.F.M. I always thought it compos'd of some of the very best men and that they try to do what would be the greatest good of the greatest number. But I dont know but a very little of anything except what happens in my own domicile. In a literary atmosphere as you are and under the full blaze of knowledge you can hardly imagine in what heathenish darkness we have where barely light enough to make us long for more I want Upham Hidden Life or something to read. Now we dont have even a newspaper. C. got in debt 10$ for the Farmer & this winter he made out to get the money and sent on and stopt the paper. Once in a while we get a Mirror, But I tell you true we dont know but dreadful little. You enquire when Mr. Willard etc. he is a Brownville man Rev. Mr. White minister of Con. So. Bradford (small man). Lucy is a Dear Daughter with many amable qualities but you have puff'd her so much in your last letter that I dont know but I had better put it away and not let her see it when she does come home. She is not so easily affected in that way as some folk but if she was you'd make her very vain. I think on looking over your figures that you have got along remarkably in regard to your expenses to be sure your page torn have not been good enough some of the time. Instance the Coat & pants you sent home last fall but that wont make any odds a few years hence. I am glad if you have got a good rest Tis most always best I think to buy good articles but the inexperienced often have to give the highest price and not get the best article after all. I would not get too deep into Society Expenses unless you are very sure that they'll benefit you which I very much doubt. But I would enquire what has become of a religious feeling you had last Spring.
Beware my Son hold forth your profession if you are not alarm'd at the great amount of Apathy in regard to religion and the infidelity I am alarm'd for you. Do you read much for amusement or relaxation I should think that outdoor exercise in the interval of Study would help you along a great deal more - is your Chum this spring the same (Barker) Charles has got home gone two days got but 42 cents for his oats I could not make this letter longer if I could I have got no more paper May God be with you my Son & bless you and grant you the quickening Sanctifying influences of the Holy Spirit. Your Mother.
