My dear Friend:-
A letter from Stella a few weeks ago told me of the loss you have sustained in the death of your dear Mother; and it has been in my heart
ever since to write to try to tell you how sorry I am. But my own Mother has been quite ill; and my time has been much divided between her and the cousin in Cheshire whom I am supposed to be caring for this summer.
Fortunately she is so much better that a cousin across the street is looking after her.
